Michael Dickter
Artist's Statement
About the Work
As a painter, my intention is to develop a visual language -- a vocabulary of images, marks and colors -- expressive of personal experiences and observations, of memory and communication.
My current work deals largely with layers. In many cases I’ve reworked older canvases, allowing glimpses of the original to show through. So the flowers you see in a vase or colors in a bird maybe the vestiges of an earlier work. A partially hidden layer. Memory works like this. Communication between people can work like this. The mind works like this. Filtered and seen through the subjectivity of observation, experience and memory.
Texture, color, marks, images, and more overlaying those.
