Painting Statement

Teresa Smith’s paintings are about ecology. Her art combines the richness of oil paint and contemplative practice.

Bold colors and lyrical brushstrokes create a language of vital sensuality. Influenced by Emily Carr, and The Group of Seven, she paints the soul in nature.

Aesthetics, deep woods and our island provide seed for the work. Teresa creates a mosaic of light by weaving and interlacing patterns and color.

Her oil paintings are about the mystery beneath the surface, the layer woven between worlds. Romance and beauty, earth, salt air, and wild places.
