Susanne Lecher Osborn
Artist's Statement
Her studio is in Portland, Oregon, where she teaches such classes as Adventures in Argentium, Jewelry Metals, and Hollow Ring Construction at Multnomah Art Center. After getting her B.A. in Biology from Eastern Mennonite University, Susanne earned her MFA from the University of Washington, Seattle, with an emphasis in Metalsmithing under Professor Mary Lee Hu. She has been featured in a small handful of exhibitions not only in the Pacific Northwest, but in Europe as well.
Her process of working is meditative. Each piece of fine contemporary jewelry is created with repetitive and labor intensive techniques such as wire twisting, wire crocheting or knitting, and paper cutting. The paper is connected to the steel and titanium with pressure, painted with oil paints, and sealed with acrylic. This lightweight jewelry is easy to wear and waterproof.
