My work reflects the process of aging, in that the chance and random circumstances involved in its creation are closely correlated with the physicality of growth and decay. The surface speaks of the passage of time; the windows, and the conundrums posed within them, address the deeper meanings of existence. I use these openings or portals to draw the viewer closer, thereby establishing a dialogue between the viewer and the work. Shifting levels of focus are established by means of elevation changes, creating a dynamic field for the deployment of perception.
Just as our personal history is shaped by our memories, so is my art. The memories are evoked by the textures I create, and they reside within the materials as well. By combining raw and well-worn materials, I seek to give visual form to our relationships with the past.
As life reflects us back to ourselves as a means to discovery, I hope that my work mirrors the spirit of the viewer at the same time that it addresses my own philosophical concerns.
