Artist's Biography

About the hand worked fabric

In my work, I investigate things such as the inanity of popular culture, our skewed system of values, and the absurdity that can be found in contemporary life. I am interested in the way human connection and introspection can temper these things. I produce imagery that reflects not only the challenge, distress, and frustration of our existence, but also the mystery, wonder, and humor to be found there. Everything is grist for the mill.

I want my work to show evidence of being handmade -- this indication of the piece’s evolution is what makes it compelling for me -- the strokes, the layers, the drips, the drawing, the sanding, the pasting, and the stitching. I like the history of the piece, at completion, to be apparent. In this era of the flickering screen and transitory image, this work holds my attention.
