Functional Art Statement
Don Chenoweth
Don Chenoweth graduated from Southern Methodist University with two degrees, in Engineering and a Master of Computer Science. After a 50-year career in the Healthcare IT field, Don retired and decided to fulfill a personal dream of doing something creative with his hands by designing and building fine furniture. WaterWorks Gallery has been representing Don since 2023.
As I began to develop a shop in my garage, I discovered an amazing community woodworking co-op called the Fellow Shop, founded by two very talented craftspeople. They have guided me in my dream and taught me how to design and build some amazing furniture. Through our collaboration they have been there to advise me and teach me the proper way to work with wood and to build the pieces I have personally designed.
In addition to making furniture for his home, Don has created several heirloom pieces which he makes with specific client’s specifications as well as pieces for sale at WaterWorks Gallery.
It is especially gratifying for me to know that my furniture will live on for generations.
