Returning to Seattle after many years in NYC, working as a gemologist and antique jewelry specialist, I am finding the slower rhythms of the Pacific NW once again.
Daily life in New York was filled with jewelry, art and antiques, a constant source of beauty and inspiration. Here in the Pacific NW, inspiration comes from the endless vistas of mountains, water, sky, flowers and trees and time spent with family and friends.
My jewelry combines influences from both these treasured places in my life as well as from my many travels around the world. History and culture, the ancientness of gems and how they have been worn throughout time; these are the things that have always fascinated me.
Of all the amazing jewelry I’ve seen over the years, there is still something absolutely breathtaking and timeless about a single strand of gemstones or pearls that gets me everytime! Coveting these rivers of gems, I decided that the next step in my evolution in jewelry, was to learn the time-honored skill of handknotting on silk; then create pieces that reflected my personal passion for history and jewels.
I create my jewelry to be fluid, versatilea nd easy to wear. My necklaces and bracelets go just as easily with a t- shirt and jeans as they do a little black dress. My longer necklaces can be doubled or even wrapped several times around the wrist to wear as a bracelet (perfect for travel!), and different necklaces can be worn together to make a completely different look.I also oftentimes use different colored silk to infuse an unexpected pop of color. I like to call my pieces “everyday gems”as I believe the things we love should be enjoyed and shared daily.-WendySmith,GG
