Print Statement

My prints are of three types: single-block, reduction and multi-block woodcuts. All three start the same way: a design transferred to a flat block of wood, poplar, basswood, or cherry, and sometimes lino, then cut with woodcarving chisels. The remaining wood is inked and transferred to paper with a small press or by hand.

My aim is to use woodblock prints to interpret the mystery, beauty, and severity of creation. Woodblock prints allow for work with materials and processes that are particularly well suited to this. Woodcuts are a straightforward, labor-intensive art form that carries the potential for direct, honest, strong and varied artistic expression. I've been working with woodblock prints (woodcuts) for many years. I'm hoping to make prints that people will enjoy, find resonance with, and make part of their lives.
