my sculpture represents my own sense of iconic imagery and exhibits my love of the theatrical through embellishment, textiles and collage. my focus on “the mask” is simply an obsession with the thousands of masks we all wear; how we read them and how they make us feel.

i received my b.a. in art from the university of puget sound and studied painting at the honolulu academy of art. after teaching art i discovered my interest in theatre and pursued acting, designing and directing opening to a world of metaphor and archetypes. i feel my work is a result of all these experiences blending together to inform my artistic direction.

susan’s masks are created from a clay base with salvaged and collected materials.
